In this episode of the Nevada Author Network, we delve into the creative journey of Ken Sutherland, a celebrated author and member of the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame. After a 53-year career in broadcasting, Ken transitioned into the world of writing, where he found his true passion.
Ken’s writing career began unexpectedly during his time as a disc jockey. Surrounded by seasoned professionals with deep voices, he felt the need to stand out. “I figured if I was gonna keep a job, I would have to say something clever,” he shares. This cleverness translated into writing, leading him to craft over 40,000 commercials and eventually, a series of novels.
Ken’s first novel, *Heartbreaker*, took nearly two decades to come to life. Originally set in the 90s, he realized it had to be reimagined in the 70s to resonate with the story’s essence. The protagonist, a retired LAPD detective, navigates the turbulent music scene of that era after the tragic death of his pop star daughter.
This rich backdrop adds depth to Ken’s narrative, showing how the past influences the present in unexpected ways.
